Maryam Shehzad is an artist and designer whose work explores the quiet, often overlooked emotions that unfold behind screens. Her paintings are more than images, they are fragments of her life, small antidotes to the loneliness and love experienced while living between worlds. Her work offers a glimpse into everyday moments shaped by distance and connection.
Morning Routine
Oil on Canvas, 37 x 26 in, 2026
My days often begin with a cup of chai, scrolling through news from home, FaceTiming family, and thinking about what comes next. This small routine connects me to different versions of myself: the person I was before moving, the person I am becoming, and the future I am working toward.
Through familiar objects, daily routines, and moments of reflection, this painting explores the tension between nostalgia for home, the uncertainties of the present, and hopes for the future. Like many international students, I carry memories, relationships, and aspirations across borders, constantly navigating who I was, who I am, and who I will be.
