The deserving immigrant (?)
5 x 2 in installation, 11 x 6 x 9 in Kinetic sculpture
This piece was made by intervening my own receipts and mounting them onto an old rolodex. It reflects and challenges the government’s belief that immigrants are only valuable when they spend. As immigrants, we are forced to accept this, as it allows us stay. As a result, when we are not upper class consumers, our sacrifices and concerns are often ignored. My piece highlights these concerns by compiling and writing them onto the receipts, in order to document, share and resist.
